Overview

Chef Lim Restaurant, nestled in the heart of Taman Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, offers a genuine taste of Chinese-Malay fusion that appeals to both locals and visitors. This unassuming eatery, tucked away along Jalan Cengal in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, rewards those who venture inside with a quiet, orderly dining space that is clean and air-conditioned—perfect for a comfortable meal any time of day.

The true highlight here is the robust and richly flavored Siham Curry Chicken Noodle. Served with tender chicken and accompanied by succulent char siu and roast pork, the curry melds coconut creaminess with fragrant bunga kantan notes to create a comforting, soulful bowl. While some diners feel it could pack a bit more punch, the overall experience of the curry—especially paired with the springy wanton noodles—has won a strong following. The option to customize your noodle or rice combinations adds versatility, allowing each visit to feel fresh and personal.

Beyond the curry noodle, Chef Lim excels with its traditional Chinese fare. The roast meat ensemble, including the boiled village chicken, char siu, and roast pork, is tender and joyful in texture. The chicken rice, crafted with perfectly steamed taugeh sprouts, delivers authenticity backed by a local health rating ‘A’. These signature dishes reflect a dedication to technique and quality, ensuring each bite highlights the essence of classic Chinese comfort food.

The restaurant’s spatial layout is inviting without fuss. It balances a lived-in charm with tidiness—tables are well-laid and menus laminated for easy choice-making. Service is attentively casual, with helpful staff guiding newcomers through the menu's breadth, which includes sides like crispy wantons and sambal to elevate the meal further.

Chef Lim is ideal for anyone seeking hearty, home-style Chinese dishes fused with Malay influences within Kuala Lumpur’s bustling culinary scene. It's especially suited for those who appreciate layered flavors in curry soups or crave the simplicity of expertly roasted meats with fragrant rice. While parking in Setapak can test patience, securing a spot just feels like luck smiling on your appetite, rewarding you with food that honors tradition while inviting new explorations.

In sum, Chef Lim Restaurant stands as a solid pick for food lovers chasing authentic tastes wrapped in a relaxed setting. Whether you’re a fan of curry noodles or classic chicken rice, this spot promises a memorable dining experience with dishes that speak clearly of care and craftsmanship.

Monday 3 February 2025 - sixth day of Chinese New Year. Came here to try out for the first time. Many times passed by, but missed it. Reason being this row of shops "sinks-in". When driving past, can easily miss. The interior is well organised, quiet (maybe still early), and clean. Air-conditioned. Therefore it is comfortable. The laminated menu is on every table. Ordered curry wantan mee with curry chicken and roast pork. The curry is good. Portion is quite okay. Workers are helpful. Service is fine. Cash and e-wallet payment accepted. May come back to try other items on the menu.

The meats-roast pork, char siew and pak cham kai are really good. What I like about this place is the multi option - build your own noodle choices or rice combos. One day you are in for bone broth soup, sure chuck any meat choice combo in and select additional toppings if you are in the mood for, just rice and their meats, or pimp up that rice with the chai boey..up to you. I am always a proponent of Penang curry noodles.. but the curry noodles here with wan than mee noodles and roast pork has stolen my heart or shall I say my stomach love space. It's always indulgent you visit. Portions are great like everything in Setapak. Parking is the problem but if you get a spot, you know the food gods have smiled on you.

hmmm…….. wat can mii say? Curry is 7.5/10⭐ Great coconut, bunga kantan flavor. Just needed another 20% more Ummmp will place the curry more impactful. Ingredients….. clams are very very small, but of fresh & not frozen. Can’t contribute to the impact overall. Pig skin? Awesome it’s lightly fried with texture of FaGao (expensive fish maw) Roast Pork & Char Siu needed more improvements in taste & marination. Fuchuk ok lar. So, overall it’s still a great curry noodle place, but can, Yes! CAN BE BETTER Improve & Good Biz

Great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner or anytime. We had chicken rice, chicken roast pork rice. They were all delicious. The rice portion is big and sufficient. The chicken is moist and the roast pork is also flavorful and tender. The best of all is their chili sauce for the rice. Their menu has rice and noodles dishes too. Highly recommend. Definitely will be back for more.
